Speech and Language at Home

Speech-language pathologists see your child for just a fraction of time each week. As parents and caregivers, you are with your child almost 24 hours a day, seven days a week. As SLPs we help you teach your children how to become successful communicators. Here are just a few tips on how to create a speech and language rich environment within your home.

1. Daily Routines

(e.g. bath time)

  • counting

  • body parts

  • prepositions (on, in, under, out)

  • pictures, letters, and words on clothing

  • things to work on: prepositions, colors, textures, words, letters, size matching, sorting into categories

(e.g. Books)

  • My turn/your turn

  • Before questions have them point to pictures
